Water water everywhere – Center Island this summer
There’s been so much rain leading up to this summer that the Toronto Islands flooded. For most of May, the ferries to Ward’s Island were cancelled and the docks were a veritable ghost town. It was a strange site because the rest of the Lakeshore pathway has only been getting busier with the weather becoming nicer.
However, you can still go to the Islands this summer either by water taxi or by apparently telling the ferry staff you’re headed to one of the cafés and restaurants still operating. (https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2017/06/02/as-water-encroaches-toronto-islands-are-haunting.html)
I’d say that this is a great time to support businesses on the islands and see it all empty – probably one of the weirdest things you can do this summer.
